Grand Prize in All Categories: Local Government, Corporate, and Meritorious Public Officials
Top Performance for Two Consecutive Years

Growth in Secondary Battery and Defense Sectors Draws Attention

Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province achieved the 'Triple Crown' by winning the grand prize in all three categories-local government, corporate, and meritorious public officials-at the "2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Investment Attraction Awards" ceremony held at the multipurpose hall of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Government on December 19.

This achievement is based on a comprehensive evaluation of investment attraction performance and efforts to promote investment among cities and counties in North Gyeongsang Province. Despite challenging external conditions, Gumi City earned the highest honor for the second consecutive year, following its success in 2024.

This year, Gumi City delivered results across a wide range of industries, including materials and components, semiconductors, defense and defense industry, secondary batteries, tourism and services, and healthcare.

Gumi City attracted investments totaling approximately 4.5 trillion won from 18 companies, including LG Innotek in the semiconductor materials sector, Samyang Comtech in the defense and defense industry sector, Mirae Advanced Materials in the secondary battery sector, Koramco Asset Management, which is promoting the construction of a Sheraton hotel, iMedi, a contact lens company, and Dasan Precision, a medical microneedle specialist. These investments have further enhanced the competitiveness of the region's core and strategic industries.

Companies that signed investment agreements (MOUs) with Gumi City also achieved remarkable results. In the corporate category of the 2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Investment Attraction Awards, PNT received the grand prize, while Samyang Comtech won the excellence award.

PNT signed an MOU with Gumi City in 2024 and is currently investing in production facilities for cathode materials and battery cell sectors. With the expanding demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESS), the company is expected to experience structural growth and has secured global competitiveness as a technology-driven company supplying key equipment for secondary battery electrode processes.

Samyang Comtech specializes in advanced defense industry materials such as bulletproof ceramics and composite materials. Following its investment in 2022, the company signed an additional MOU this year to expand its investments. As a key pillar of the Gumi defense industry cluster, it has high growth potential based on its technological competitiveness and is also attracting attention in terms of exports due to the growing global demand for defense industry products.

Kim Youngcheol, Director of Economic Affairs at Gumi City, stated, "Despite the global economic slowdown and uncertainty, our strategic investment attraction, expansion of industrial infrastructure, and tailored support for companies have yielded tangible results. We will continue to improve residential conditions, expand transportation and industrial infrastructure, and implement effective corporate support policies to sustain our investment attraction achievements."
