On December 21, President Lee Jaemyung announced, "Our police have safely rescued a Korean citizen who was being held captive at a scam crime complex on the Cambodia-Vietnam border and have arrested numerous members of international criminal organizations."

President Lee made this statement through his social networking service (SNS) account on the same day. He added, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the police officers who completed their mission despite the dangerous and harsh conditions in a foreign land."

President Lee also stated, "Going forward, we will further strengthen cooperation with law enforcement agencies in other countries to eradicate international organized crime, including online scams and voice phishing." He emphasized, "We will do everything possible in all stages, including tracking, investigation, arrest, and repatriation."

According to the National Police Agency, on December 18, twenty-six Koreans were arrested and one Korean man in his twenties was rescued from a crime complex in Mondulkiri, an area on the Cambodia-Vietnam border. The National Police Agency confirmed the case of a Korean being held captive through a 112 emergency call on December 2, and, with the cooperation of four Korean police officers from the Korea Task Force and local police who were dispatched, they succeeded in the rescue and arrests.

The Korea Task Force rescued two Koreans and arrested ninety-two suspects involved in scam activities this month. They plan to work with Cambodian authorities to ensure these individuals can be repatriated to Korea.
