Public Can Report Factual Errors in Generative AI
Campaign Runs Through January Next Year
The Ministry of Science and ICT, together with the AI Safety Research Institute, is launching a public participation campaign to check for information errors in generative artificial intelligence (AI). As AI usage becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, public concerns about accuracy and reliability have grown. The purpose of the campaign is to verify errors with users and connect the findings to improvements.
On December 21, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it will jointly conduct the "Genuine AI Challenge Without Information Errors" with the AI Safety Research Institute from December 22, 2025, to January 21, 2026. The AI Safety Research Institute is a specialized research organization established in November last year to systematically address risks that may arise from the limitations, misuse, or loss of control of AI technology.
Recently, the use of generative AI has been rapidly increasing in fields where accuracy is crucial, such as education, healthcare, law, and the economy. However, concerns have been raised that providing information inconsistent with facts can lead to user confusion or harm. In response, the government has planned a campaign that allows the public to directly identify information errors and participate in the verification process, aiming to create a trustworthy AI environment.
In this campaign, if a member of the public submits a case where a commercial generative AI model provides an inaccurate result, the AI Safety Research Institute, together with experts in each field, will verify the error and request improvements from the relevant AI developer or service provider.
Any citizen of the Republic of Korea can participate, and the campaign targets widely used generative AI models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, Claude, A.Dot, and RyuTen. Participants can capture a screenshot of the information error generated by AI, post it on their personal social media with the hashtag '#AIFactCheck', and then submit the link via Naver Form or email. For valid reports, a total of 200 participants will be selected by lottery to receive a mobile gift certificate worth 30,000 won.
Submitted cases will undergo eligibility review and reproducibility verification before a final determination of error is made. A recommendation for improvement will then be prepared and delivered to the AI companies. The government plans to ensure that these recommendations lead to practical follow-up actions, such as algorithm improvements or data refinement, through consultation with the relevant companies.
Lee Jinsoo, Director of AI Policy Planning at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "To move towards a society where AI is part of everyday life, it is essential to provide an environment where the public can use AI safely and accurately. We hope this campaign will serve as a starting point for building a trustworthy AI ecosystem together with the public."
