Yanggu County in Gangwon Province has been selected as the top local government in the improvement category in the '2025 (2024 fiscal year) Local Government Fiscal Analysis' conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing a special grant of 38 million won.
The Local Government Fiscal Analysis is a comprehensive evaluation system that categorizes 243 local governments nationwide by type and assesses their fiscal status and operational performance across three areas: soundness, efficiency, and planning.
In this year's evaluation, Yanggu County demonstrated significant improvements compared to the previous year in numerous indicators, including the rate of increase in non-tax revenue, improvement in local tax collection rates, changes in local tax arrears, changes in local subsidies, and changes in self-funded expenses. As a result, it was recognized as the top local government in the improvement category among its peer group (County-III type).
Additionally, Yanggu County achieved balanced improvements across all evaluation areas-soundness, efficiency, and planning-raising its overall grade by two levels from the previous year to a 'B' rating.
However, the rate of reduction in local council expenses and the change in non-tax revenue arrears were relatively low, indicating areas that require further improvement in the future.
Kim Jihee, Director of Planning and Budget, stated, "This evaluation is the result of closely examining our fiscal structure, reducing unnecessary expenditures, and strengthening revenue management," adding, "We will continue to enhance the soundness and efficiency of our finances in a balanced manner to ensure responsible fiscal management."
