Samsung Electronics and Google Gemini Join Forces... Unveiling the 'Bespoke AI Refrigerator'

Samsung Electronics is introducing its new 'Bespoke AI Refrigerator,' the first home appliance to be equipped with Google's generative AI model, Gemini.

On December 21, Samsung Electronics announced that it will unveil the new Bespoke AI Refrigerator at 'The First Look' event in Las Vegas, United States, next month. By integrating Gemini with the 'AI Vision' feature, which recognizes food ingredients using the refrigerator's internal camera, the company has enhanced food recognition performance.

Previously, the system could automatically recognize only 37 types of fresh foods and 50 types of processed and packaged foods, but with the adoption of Gemini, the range of recognizable items has been expanded. It now not only identifies ingredients but also reads the text on labels attached to containers, automatically registering them in the grocery inventory.

The 'AI Food Manager' feature, which links ingredient recognition and management with recipe recommendations and shopping, has also been implemented. By analyzing refrigerator usage patterns, it provides notifications for ingredients that need to be purchased, personalized recipe suggestions, and reports on ingredient usage.

The upgraded AI Vision will also be applied to wine refrigerators. Samsung Electronics has newly introduced the 'AI Wine Manager' feature based on SmartThings. The internal camera at the top of the wine refrigerator recognizes wine bottles and automatically records information such as name, classification, grape variety, and vintage. The storage location inside the refrigerator is also displayed, and the list is updated in real time when bottles are moved or removed.

Samsung Electronics plans to apply the enhanced AI Vision feature to the 'Bespoke AI Family Hub,' 'Bespoke AI Hybrid,' and 'Infinite AI Wine Refrigerator,' all scheduled for release next year.

Moon Jongseung, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Digital Appliances Division, stated, "We have continued to innovate kitchen appliances through AI Vision technology," and added, "Through the evolution of AI Vision in collaboration with Google, we will deliver a differentiated food experience."
