The police announced on the 21st that they had rescued a man in his twenties who had been held captive inside a scam compound near the Cambodia-Vietnam border and arrested 26 members of the criminal organization.
This large-scale rescue and arrest operation marks the third joint mission conducted by the police forces of both countries since the launch of the Korea Task Force. After confirming the captivity of a South Korean national through a missing persons report on December 2, the police urgently dispatched four officers to the site.
The police forces of both countries had designated December 20 as the operation date and were preparing for a joint mission. However, signs of escape within the criminal compound were detected. In response to an urgent request from the Korea Task Force, approximately 40 officers from the Mondolkiri Provincial Police Department were immediately deployed.
A police official stated, "We will take the lead in eradicating international organized crime, such as online scams and voice phishing, through close cooperation with overseas law enforcement agencies."
