Hwaseong City: "Minimizing Citizen Inconvenience Due to Dongtan Forest Ecological Tunnel Construction"

Implementation of Additional Metropolitan Chartered Buses
and Intersection Extensions

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 19th that it is implementing measures such as adding more metropolitan chartered buses and extending intersections to address the inconvenience experienced by citizens commuting to and from work due to the emergency safety construction of the Dongtan Forest ecological tunnel.

To alleviate commuting difficulties toward Seoul, the city is operating a total of eight metropolitan chartered bus trips-two buses each on two routes in the Mokdong area (Changui High School to Gangnam Station, Changui High School to Jamsil Station) and two routes in the Cheonggye-dong area (Yesol Elementary School to Gangnam Station, Changui High School to Jamsil Station).

The chartered metropolitan buses can be boarded at the temporary bus stop at Changui High School in Mokdong and the bus stop at Yesol Elementary School in Cheonggye-dong. Departure times are 6:50 a.m. and 7:10 a.m. for the Mokdong direction, and 7:00 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. for the Cheonggye-dong direction.

Among these, the temporary route toward Mokdong now enters the Giheung Interchange directly via Dongtan-daero instead of the previous temporary detour, thereby reducing travel time.

Starting on the 19th, the city has extended the left-turn lanes at the Wangsan-deul Intersection toward Mokdong from the previous 50 meters (first lane) and 60 meters (second lane) to 110 meters (first lane) and 220 meters (second lane). As a result, the number of vehicles that can be accommodated during signal waiting has increased from 15 to 47, and the city expects this will improve the left-turn flow toward both Mokdong and Sindong.

On this day, the city held an expert advisory meeting with Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and the construction company to discuss the possibility of partial vehicle passage through the tunnel. The city also plans to conduct an on-site inspection before the scheduled completion of construction at the end of this month.

The city added that it is also providing updates on construction progress and traffic detour information through a dedicated bulletin board for 'Dongtan Forest Ecological Tunnel Safety Measures' on its website.

Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong, said, "We will minimize inconvenience by increasing the number of metropolitan chartered buses and improving transportation facilities," adding, "Above all, we will prioritize citizen safety and push forward with the construction as quickly as possible."
