HD Hyundai has reaffirmed its commitment to safety culture by announcing a new group-wide safety vision.
On December 19, HD Hyundai held the "HD Hyundai Safety Forum" at its Global Research & Development (R&D) Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, where it unveiled the group's future safety strategies and implementation plans. Chairman Jung Ki-sun stated, "Safety is not a matter of regulations or declarations, but an essential condition that determines a company's survival," adding, "Continuous attention and practical action must follow to establish a safety culture and create a safe workplace."
Jung Ki-sun, Chairman of HD Hyundai, visited the HD Hyundai Samho Shipyard located in Yeongam County, Jeollanam-do last September to inspect the work site and check safety facilities and equipment. HD Hyundai
This forum was organized to review safety cases from the past decade and share the company's mid- to long-term safety management direction. Last September, HD Hyundai announced plans to invest a total safety budget of 4.5 trillion won over the next five years through 2030. This forum is a continuation of its safety management strategy.
The event was attended by Chairman Jung Ki-sun, executives from each affiliate, and Chief Safety Officers (CSOs). External participants included Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon, National Assembly member Kim Tae-sun (Ulsan Dong-gu), and around 60 academic experts from KAIST, Chung-Ang University, and Pusan National University. They discussed safety issues facing industrial sites.
On this day, HD Hyundai officially declared its new group safety vision: "A workplace where everyone is safe, a company where safety becomes the brand." The company presented three core pillars to realize this vision: systems, culture, and technology. Specifically, HD Hyundai plans to enhance its company-wide risk management system, raise the overall level of safety culture within the organization, and establish a system that predicts safety issues in advance and responds in real time by utilizing big data and artificial intelligence (AI).
Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon stated, "I hope this forum will serve as an opportunity for HD Hyundai to become a leading example of workplace safety in the industry," adding, "The government will also expand its budget and steadily implement comprehensive labor safety measures to address structural risk factors."
Based on the newly announced safety vision, HD Hyundai plans to continue building advanced safety systems and expanding investments in safety facilities to achieve zero serious accidents at its workplaces. In addition, the company will establish execution strategies for each affiliate and improve overall safety standards through benchmarking and collaboration within the group.
