Evaluation Based on Implementation of Emergency Reduction Measures and Biomass Combustion Reduction
Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province has been selected as the top institution in the '2025 Fine Dust Reduction City and County Comprehensive Evaluation.'
According to the city on December 19, the evaluation, organized by North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province, comprehensively reviewed the performance of ultra-fine dust reduction policies and region-specific initiatives across cities and counties in the province.
The evaluation was conducted strictly based on 28 indicators across seven categories, including the implementation of emergency reduction measures, reduction of biomass combustion, supply and infrastructure development of zero-emission vehicles, and implementation of seasonal management systems.
The city received high marks for its differentiated policies and proactive efforts to secure budgets. In particular, Jeongeup City quickly secured the remaining budget allocated to other local governments for 2025 and successfully obtained additional national funding for 100 electric vehicles, significantly expanding electric vehicle distribution.
As a result, the electric vehicle adoption rate in Jeongeup City reached 3.6%, far exceeding the North Jeolla Province average of 3.0%.
Additionally, the city utilized senior job program participants for the maintenance and safety management of electric vehicle charging facilities, both improving the quality of the charging infrastructure and creating jobs for seniors-an exemplary 'two birds with one stone' policy.
These comprehensive efforts also led to tangible results. This year, Jeongeup City's annual average concentration of ultrafine dust was 16.7㎍/㎥, down from 17㎍/㎥ last year, demonstrating improved air quality.
With this selection as the top institution, Jeongeup City has achieved the distinction of winning for two consecutive years, following last year's award. The city will receive an institutional commendation as well as financial incentives.
A city official stated, "By focusing administrative efforts across various sectors to reduce fine dust, we have achieved the meaningful result of being selected as the top institution for two consecutive years. We will continue to do our best to develop new policies and promote reduction projects to create a pleasant air environment where citizens can breathe with peace of mind."
