Goseong County Confirms Improved Kichso Reproductive Performance... Higher Conception Rates and Lower Mortality Goseong County, Gangwon Province, held the "2025 Hanwoo (Kichso) Conception Rate Improvement and Calf Management Pilot Project Evaluation Meeting" at the Goseong County Agricultural Technology Center on the 17th. The evaluation meeting was attended by officials from the Livestock Distribution Division, the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Livestock Technology Research Institute, the Department of Animal Resources Science at Kangwon National University, Goseong Livestock Cooperative, Hanwoo pilot project farmers, and pilot companies. They reviewed the results of this year's pilot project and held in-depth discussions on ways to expand the project in the future.

This pilot project was carried out to improve the reproductive efficiency (conception rate) of Hanwoo cattle, expand the breeding cow base, reduce breeding cow production costs, strengthen competitiveness, and increase farmers' income. From April, a total of 60 million won was provided to four breeding farms in Goseong County raising 690 cows. The support included supplementary feed to improve conception rates, stage-specific feed for breeding and fattening, training on breeding management such as estrus synchronization and embryo transfer, intensive calf care facilities, and ten rounds of consulting.

Farmers who participated in the pilot project said, "Receiving systematic guidance on estrus observation and nutrition management greatly helped improve conception rates," and added, "After applying the calf management manual, concerns about calf mortality have significantly decreased."

Experts assessed that if customized management technologies tailored to the reproductive characteristics of Hanwoo (Kichso) are continuously distributed, and field-based observation and consulting are strengthened, the project's outcomes could be further expanded.

Don Minyeon, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "Through this pilot project, we have identified a standard management model for Hanwoo (Kichso) breeding and nutrition management," and added, "We will do our best to expand proven technologies to general breeding farms, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the Hanwoo industry and increasing farmers' income."
