Exhibition of Retired F-4 Phantom Fighter Jet
Honoring Local Patriots and Their Legacy
The F-4 Phantom, which once protected the skies of South Korea, has found a new home in Yangsan.
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province has solidified its position as a true "security-leading city" by opening the "Security History Zone," aimed at raising citizens' security awareness and sharing the region's historical value.
On December 17, the city held an opening ceremony at the Security History Zone in Bukbu-dong, attended by Mayor Na Dongyeon, the chairperson of the Yangsan City Council, heads of veterans' organizations, representatives of security organizations, and about 100 others.
The newly established Security History Zone drew attention by exhibiting a real F-4 Phantom fighter jet, which was honorably retired after defending South Korea's airspace.
In addition, signboards have been installed to introduce local patriots and document their noble acts of national defense, creating a living educational space where citizens and visitors can naturally reflect on the importance of liberal democracy and the value of peace in their daily lives.
This opening ceremony is especially meaningful, as it coincides with Yangsan City's impeccable security posture. Recently, Yangsan achieved the distinction of being selected as the "top city" in Gyeongsangnam-do's 2025 Ulchi Exercise Evaluation.
The city has established an organic cooperation system among the public, private sector, military, and police by holding integrated defense council meetings every quarter. With the opening of the Security History Zone, Yangsan has further strengthened its status as a leading security city, equipped with both the hardware (security facilities) and software (Ulchi exercises and defense readiness) of security.
A Yangsan City official stated, "We hope the Security History Zone becomes a space where citizens can naturally think about security in their everyday lives," adding, "We especially look forward to it becoming a new local attraction where families can create memories by taking commemorative photos with the F-4 Phantom fighter jet as a backdrop."
