Establishing a System for Data Provision, Analysis and Modeling, and Policy Applicability Verification

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has begun strengthening its government-academia-research collaboration system to drive administrative innovation based on artificial intelligence (AI) and data.

On the 17th, Hwaseong City signed a "Business Agreement for the Creation of an AI and Data-Based Government-Academia-Research Collaboration Ecosystem" with the Hwaseong Institute, Hwaseong Industry Promotion Agency, University of Suwon, and Hyupsung University at the city council's main conference room.

The agreement was initiated to enhance the city's competitiveness by combining public data owned by the city with the professional analytical capabilities of universities and research institutions, in response to the rapidly increasing demand for AI and data-driven administration.

The participating organizations have agreed to focus their efforts not only on simple technology exchange, but also on establishing a virtuous cycle in which data leads to actual policy implementation. They will cooperate on ▲ data-driven solutions for municipal issues ▲ practical, field-oriented AI talent development ▲ responding to government-led AI and data project calls, among other initiatives.

In particular, a three-stage collaboration system will be established: the city and the promotion agency will provide refined data, the University of Suwon and Hyupsung University will analyze and model this data, and the institute will verify its policy applicability.

Additionally, university students will apply their knowledge and skills by working with real data through programs such as "capstone design," while customized AI education will be provided to public officials and citizens, with the goal of enhancing digital capabilities throughout the region.

Starting next year, the city plans to actively pursue joint analysis projects, and by the end of next year, it will also host the "Hwaseong City AI and Data Forum" to share the results of these collaborations with citizens.

Seungmoon Cho, the 2nd Vice Mayor of Hwaseong City, stated, "This agreement marks the starting point for local universities and research institutions to come together as one team to solve urban issues based on data. I hope it will serve as an opportunity to lay the foundation not only for scientific administration, but also for local talent to grow into AI experts."
