Gyeonggi Fire Department Launches Nation's First "Residential Fire Safety Insurance" for 380,000 Vulnerable Households

The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters is launching the nation's first "Residential Fire Safety Insurance" support project for vulnerable households in the province.

On December 18, the headquarters announced that it had signed a business agreement with the Korea Fire Protection Association and would invest a total of 1.7 billion won to provide Residential Fire Safety Insurance support to 379,813 households in Gyeonggi Province, including recipients of the Basic Livelihood Security Program and those in the near-poverty group who are registered residents of the province.

The headquarters explained that, as housing insecurity caused by residential fires among vulnerable groups has been repeatedly occurring, and the need for an institutional safety net to support recovery after fire suppression has been consistently raised, it has established a post-fire protection system through insurance to help ensure housing stability for these households.
