Gangwon Office of Education's Six-Year Record of the "School Library Emotional Design" Project... Satisfaction Score Reaches 4.47 The Department of Culture, Sports, and Special Education of Gangwon Provincial Office of Education will hold the final report meeting for the performance analysis research of the "School Library Emotional Design Project" on the 19th. Provided by Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education

This research began in August and was prepared to systematically assess the outcomes of the project that has been carried out over six years from 2019 to 2024, as well as to suggest future policy directions for the innovation of school library spaces in Gangwon education.

The "School Library Emotional Design Project" has been promoted to transform school libraries in the province from uniform and static spaces into complex cultural spaces where students' emotional development, learning, creativity, and relaxation are organically integrated.

Over the past six years, the project has been implemented in 353 elementary, middle, high, and special schools, with a total budget of 25.5 billion KRW. It was carried out through public contests for emotional library transformation, book play zones, and themed libraries. The project has led to continuous environmental improvements, user-centered space reorganization, and the revitalization of library-based classes, bringing about various educational changes.

At this report meeting, the research team will present the results identified through various surveys and analyses, including questionnaires, interviews with past project managers and students, and on-site investigations.

In particular, the research results will highlight meaningful changes experienced in the field, such as increased student usage rates, satisfaction with the project, participation rates in library-based classes and reading programs after the project, and emotional and cognitive changes.

A survey conducted on 3,975 students and staff from school libraries that participated in the project over the past six years showed an overall satisfaction score of 4.47 out of 5 regarding the library spaces, with the main feedback being that "the library has improved." Additionally, positive emotional responses such as "comfort, focus, and a desire to stay" received a score of 4.45, which was directly linked to increased time spent in the library.

Furthermore, the proportion of students using the library at least once a week increased by about 30%, and there were simultaneous improvements in participation in class-linked activities, immersion in assignments, and learning outcomes.

Lee Inbeom, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Special Education, stated, "The school library is a core educational space where students stay, learn, and grow independently through books," adding, "This research will serve as an important foundation for reviewing the changes brought about by six years of effort and for refining future policies."

He continued, "Gangwon education will continue to pursue space innovation to expand school libraries into student-centered, future-oriented, convergent learning spaces based on field opinions and data."
