Coupang Chairman Kim Beomseok Reported to Police for Alleged Violation of Personal Information Protection Act

Kim Beomseok, Chairman of Coupang, and Park Daejoon, former CEO, have been reported to the police over the recent personal information leak incident.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the civic group Citizens' Action for Establishing Judicial Justice (Sasehaeng) filed a police complaint on December 18 against Chairman Kim, former CEO Park, former CEO Kang Hanseung, and Brett Mathis, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act and the Information and Communications Network Act.


Additionally, Kim Byungki, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is suspected of attempting to exert influence over the status of certain Coupang executives during a luncheon with former CEO Park, was also reported to the police for allegedly violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.


Sasehaeng urged, "A thorough investigation must be conducted without exception for both major corporate executives and sitting members of the National Assembly, in accordance with the principle of equality before the law."
