For the past 14 years, the Department of Architecture has consistently operated design studios that address urban issues in the region. This year, the target site was selected as the original downtown of Iksan, where the history of Baekje, traces of a modern city, and trends of redevelopment overlap.

This course was offered as a fourth-year, second-semester design class, with a total of 42 students participating under the guidance of Professors Kim Junyoung, Min Yunki, Shin Jaehyuk, and Heo Sun. Each group selected different hubs and scales within the old downtown of Iksan, interpreting various urban landscapes such as residential areas, commercial districts, and public spaces from diverse perspectives.

Rather than focusing on large-scale development plans, the projects delicately addressed alleys, gaps, disappearing places, and lingering moments, exploring how architecture can serve as a medium for urban regeneration.

The exhibition features design panels, scale models, and videos capturing spatial images, allowing visitors to experience the old downtown of Iksan through the students' perspectives.

Through this exhibition, the Department of Architecture aims to share urban and community issues and plans to expand discussions into actual urban regeneration projects in collaboration with local governments in the future.

Professor Kim Junyoung of the Department of Architecture stated, "The Urban Regeneration Studio is not just a simple assignment, but a process of raising questions about how we understand and take responsibility for cities. I hope citizens will be able to share in the imagination and concerns of young architects as they see the old downtown of Iksan from a new perspective."
