The foundation for cultural heritage cooperation between Korea and ASEAN has been further strengthened.

The National Heritage Administration announced on the 18th that it held the "Korea-ASEAN Cultural Heritage Cooperation International Conference" together with the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Westin Chosun Parnas Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 17th.

The conference was held under the theme "Transboundary Cultural Heritage: The Value and Regional Cooperation of ASEAN Shared Cultural Heritage." Participants re-examined the value of solidarity and cooperation in shared cultural heritage and explored strategic directions for collaboration.

The first session featured the UNESCO East Asia Regional Office, the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute of Singapore, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia. They discussed the role of shared cultural heritage as a means to promote peace, mutual understanding, and cultural diversity.

The second session included case presentations from East Asia, the Turkic region, and private foundations. The National Heritage Administration also participated and shared the direction for the "Korea-ASEAN Shared Cultural Heritage Cooperation Project."

Since 2022, the National Heritage Administration has been operating the "Korea-ASEAN Cultural Heritage Council," which consists of 26 representatives from 11 ASEAN countries and the ASEAN Secretariat.
