The Korea Music Performers' Association announced on December 18 that it has established a distribution structure for the new song "Rise" by the group Deux, following the decision to allocate a portion of the neighboring rights for the track to the late Kim Sungjae.
This measure was taken based on the current Copyright Act and the neighboring rights system, reflecting the recognition of Lee Hyundo as a performer and his voluntary intention. Within the scope of legal procedures, the association carried out administrative steps to enable distribution to the late artist's bereaved family, and as a result, a portion of the neighboring rights royalties for the new song "Rise" will be paid to the family.
"Rise" is Deux's new release, unveiled 28 years after their debut, with Lee Hyundo personally writing and composing the track, offering a modern reinterpretation of Deux's signature new jack swing sound. The production also incorporated AI-powered vocal restoration based on past audio recordings of the late Kim Sungjae.
Kim Seungmin, Executive Director of the Korea Music Performers' Association, stated, "This decision is an example that began with human choice, not technology, highlighting that performers, relationships, and mutual respect are at the heart of music." He added, "The association will continue to actively participate in discussions on institutional improvements and social consensus to ensure that performers' voices and music are properly protected amid the advancement of AI technology, and will strive to safeguard their rights and interests."
