Grew Samhwa Paints into a Mid-Sized Company with 600 Billion Won in Sales
Kim Jangyeon, Chairman of Samhwa Paints Industrial Co., Ltd., passed away on the 16th. He was 69 years old.
Born in 1957, Chairman Kim graduated from Shinil High School and the Department of Industrial Chemistry at Seoul National University, and earned a master's degree in business administration from Yonsei University Graduate School of Business. Over the past 40 years, he contributed to the development of the domestic paint industry, and since being appointed as CEO in April 1994, he played a key role in Samhwa Paints' growth into Korea's leading paint company.
He is recognized as a figure who emphasized the importance of research and development (R&D) and led the advancement of high-performance domestic paints. Leveraging his expertise in chemistry, he elevated Korea's paint manufacturing technology to the level of global companies. He contributed to transforming paint from a simple coating material into a product with diverse functions, making it an indispensable item in daily life.
To secure future growth engines and ensure sustainable development, he did not settle for the status quo and boldly eliminated inefficiencies while actively seeking new growth drivers. As a result, Samhwa Paints expanded its business into various fields such as PCM, electronic materials, and heavy-duty coatings to broaden its presence in the industrial market. Consequently, the share of industrial sales expanded to 40% as of last year.
The funeral will be held at the funeral hall of Asan Medical Center in Seoul, with the burial scheduled for the 19th. He is survived by his wife, Jung Chaeyoung; his eldest daughter, Hyunjung (Vice President of Samhwa Paints); and his son, Jungseok. The funeral will be conducted as a company funeral to honor his achievements and legacy.
