Weaving the Sea into the City... Completion of Yeongdeok Chuksan Port 'Blue City'

Establishing a Tourism Hub in the Northern Region Over Five Years
Including Remodeling of Jukdosan Observatory

The landscape of "stay tourism" has emerged at Chuksan Port in Yeongdeok, where waves and the breakwater once lingered.

Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province has successfully completed the "Chuksan Blue City Development Project," which was carried out across the Chuksan-myeon area from 2020 to 2025.

Weaving the Sea into the City... Completion of Yeongdeok Chuksan Port 'Blue City' Chuksan Port.

In 2020, Yeongdeok County was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Coastal Area Development Leading Project, which enabled the full-scale promotion of the "Chuksan Blue City Development Project" aimed at strengthening cultural and tourism functions around Chuksan Port and improving residential conditions.

This project, with a total budget of 19.25 billion won, was implemented in phases over about five years. It included remodeling the Jukdosan Observatory, improving urban planning roads, installing deck roads, creating the Blue Village, establishing Sejong Dongjin Nuri Park and Mirinae Square, and renovating the Torch Hill hiking trail. These efforts were designed to enhance convenience for tourists and improve the living environment for residents.

Through these initiatives, Yeongdeok County expects to improve the landscape of the Chuksan-myeon area and establish Chuksan Port as a key tourism hub in the northern part of the county.

In particular, the Jukdosan Observatory, a landmark offering a 360-degree view of the East Coast and Chuksan Port, has been newly renovated. The first and second floor outdoor plazas have been expanded, and the overall facilities have been upgraded.

Additionally, the observatory’s function as a space for relaxation and photography has been enhanced. Among its seven floors, the fifth-floor indoor observatory now provides a panoramic view of Chuksan Port and the sea, which is expected to increase visitor satisfaction.

As a result, the area around Chuksan Port is expected to emerge as a tourism hub organically connecting the Blue Road trekking trail, parks, plazas, and observatories, solidifying its status as a representative coastal tourism destination of Yeongdeok.

An official from Yeongdeok County stated, "With the completion of the Chuksan Blue City Development Project, both tourism infrastructure and the urban environment have improved, significantly boosting the region’s competitiveness. We will continue to expand tourism content that leverages the natural and spatial characteristics of Chuksan-myeon to further vitalize the local economy."
