Gapyeong County Holds Public Hearing on Comprehensive Development Plan for Border Areas... Unveils Blueprint for 32 New Projects Gapyeong County and Gyeonggi Province jointly held a public hearing for residents and experts on the 16th at the Gapyeong County Office large conference room to reflect new projects of Gapyeong County in the "Gyeonggi Province Border Area Development Comprehensive Plan Amendment (Draft)." Provided by Gapyeong County

This public hearing was an official procedure in accordance with Article 5 of the "Special Act on Support for Border Areas" and Article 4 of its Enforcement Decree. As Gapyeong County was newly designated as a border area in March this year, the event was organized to incorporate new projects reflecting the unique characteristics and conditions of Gapyeong County into the existing "Comprehensive Development Plan for Border Areas in Gyeonggi Province (2011-2030)."

During the hearing, an explanation of the "Draft Comprehensive Development Plan for Border Areas in Gapyeong County" was provided, and a total of 32 new projects were discussed, with a wide range of opinions shared by residents and experts. Key new projects include the establishment of the Gapyeong Ecological and Security Cultural District, the construction of a public medical institution, and the creation of the Sang-myeon General Industrial Complex, covering strategic initiatives in ecological and cultural tourism, improvement of residential conditions, and expansion of industrial infrastructure.

About 90 people, including residents from six towns and villages and experts from relevant organizations, attended the event. Participants expressed their views on the phased implementation of the projects, securing funding, and ways to enhance the effectiveness of project operations as perceived by residents, sharing a variety of opinions and reaching a consensus on key issues.

Gapyeong County plans to comprehensively review the written opinions previously submitted and the feedback from residents and experts gathered at this public hearing, and reflect them in the draft plan. After further consultation with Gyeonggi Province, the "Amendment to the Comprehensive Development Plan for Border Areas in Gyeonggi Province" will be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

If the amendment is finalized next year following deliberation by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and consultation with relevant agencies, Gapyeong County will establish phased implementation plans and sequentially pursue the new projects using national funds allocated from 2027 onward.

A Gapyeong County official stated, "The new projects proposed at this public hearing aim to expand the income base for residents and improve the living environment, making Gapyeong a better place to live. We will actively incorporate the valuable opinions of residents and experts to develop an effective plan that will drive the sustainable development of Gapyeong County over the next 20 years."
