Winter Construction Site Safety Inspections Lead to 21 Improvements by Busanjin Free Economic Zone Authority

Joint Public-Private Inspections at Eight Major Construction Sites
Focusing on High-Risk Processes and Tasks During Winter

Busanjin Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Commissioner Park Seongho, has completed preparations for the winter season.

The authority announced on December 17 that it conducted safety inspections at eight major construction sites from November 27 to December 9, in response to risks such as cold waves, strong winds, and fire hazards during the winter. During this period, a total of 21 safety deficiencies were identified and addressed.

The inspections targeted eight apartment complexes and factories, excluding sites where construction had not yet commenced, out of the 16 large-scale construction sites currently under construction. The safety inspection team consisted of seven members, including private sector experts in architecture and staff from the authority, who visited the sites in person.

The main inspection items included: ▲ whether safety management was in place for processes and tasks with a high risk of accidents in winter; ▲ compliance with precautions for concrete pouring during the winter and the adequacy of thermal curing; ▲ establishment of quality testing plans and submission and approval of safety management plans; and ▲ verification of supervision practices according to detailed guidelines for supervisory work.

A total of 21 deficiencies were found, including the absence of fire extinguishers and the lack of protective shelves and safety railings at main entrances. Of these, five issues were corrected immediately on site, while the remaining 16, which require more time, will be improved and their implementation will be monitored.

Commissioner Park Seongho emphasized, "The winter season is a time when various safety accidents such as the collapse of temporary structures, fires, and slip accidents can easily occur, so it is especially important for on-site workers to pay close attention to safety management and conduct thorough pre-inspections."

Commissioner Park added, "Through continuous on-site inspections, guidance, and education, we will work to prevent safety accidents at construction sites during the winter and continuously strengthen the safety standards of construction sites within our jurisdiction."
