In connection with this, Jin Okdong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, held a signing ceremony with Yuk Hyunpyo, Chairman of the Korea Athletics Federation, at the company’s headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the previous day.
Through this agreement, Shinhan Financial Group will serve as the main sponsor of the Korean national athletics team for the next three years. The company plans to provide active support to help the national team demonstrate its competitiveness on the international stage, not only at domestic competitions but also at major international events such as the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games next year and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Chairman Jin stated, "Athletics is the foundation of all sports, and the competitiveness of athletics is directly linked to the overall competitiveness of Korean sports. As a reliable partner of Korean athletics, we will continue to provide a wide range of support to further enhance its competitiveness."
Chairman Yuk responded, "Shinhan Financial Group's sponsorship marks an important turning point for Korean athletics. We will focus all our efforts so that our athletes can achieve the best results at the Asian Games and the Olympics."
Korean athletics has consistently demonstrated its competitiveness on the international stage, including Hwang Youngjo’s gold medal in the men’s marathon at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Lee Bongju’s silver medal in the men’s marathon at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and Woo Sanghyeok’s silver medal in the high jump at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September. In July, the men's relay team also won a gold medal in the 400m relay at the World University Games.
Meanwhile, since 2015, Shinhan Financial Group has supported national teams in eight sports, starting with the Korea Ski Association and expanding to handball, sport climbing, judo, triathlon, cycling, and now athletics.
Among these, the company is especially committed to promoting a healthy sports culture by supporting popular sports with high public participation, such as triathlon, cycling, and athletics. As part of these efforts, the "Shinhan 20+ Run" service launched by Shinhan Bank at the end of October surpassed 300,000 subscribers within just one month.
