Yeongcheon City announced on the 17th that it has received the Excellence Award for Foreign Resident Increase in the '2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Foreign Resident Policy Evaluation for Cities and Counties'.
This evaluation was introduced for the first time this year by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province to support the settlement of foreign residents in local communities and to review and share the implementation status of foreign resident policies by city and county.
The evaluation comprehensively reflected ▲performance in promoting local visa programs ▲the ratio of foreign residents to the registered population ▲performance in implementing foreign resident-friendly initiatives ▲the number of foreign residents attending Korean language education, among other factors. Yeongcheon City received the Excellence Award for Foreign Resident Increase based on its outstanding performance in local specialized visa programs.
The local specialized visa program is a system that allows foreign residents recommended by local governments to change to visas favorable for long-term stay in Korea, on the condition of residing and working in areas with declining populations. Yeongcheon City has recorded the highest implementation performance in the province for three consecutive years, from the pilot project in 2023 to the projects in 2024 and 2025.
A city official stated, "This award is a recognition of Yeongcheon City's achievements in supporting the settlement of foreign residents, including the local visa program. We will continue to expand foreign resident-friendly initiatives so that foreign residents can naturally integrate as members of the local community, and we will also strive to help alleviate workforce shortages in industrial sectors."
