National Science Museum Hosts Professor Han Sangyong for "Games Are Science" Lecture

How scientific are the decisions and strategies that determine victory in games? The National Science Museum has organized a lecture that highlights esports as a "collection of scientific thinking."

The National Science Museum announced on December 17 that it will host Professor Han Sangyong from the Department of Esports at Osan University as the speaker for the December session of the "Star Science Special Lecture," held every third Saturday of the month. The lecture, titled "Games Are Science," will take place at 2 p.m. on December 20.

This lecture will use the tactical shooting game "Valorant" and "League of Legends" as case studies to explain how the strategic choices and split-second decisions made by professional players are based on scientific principles and data analysis. The event will scientifically interpret the "formula for victory" by exploring the probabilities, cognitive judgments, and team strategy structures hidden within gameplay.

Professor Han previously served as the head coach of the Jin Air Green Wings League of Legends team and has worked as a commentator for the LCK Academy Series and as a board member of the Korea e-Sports Association. He is recognized as a leading expert in the field of esports, known for making tactical analysis and scientific training methods accessible to the public based on his extensive field experience.

Kwon Seokmin, Director of the National Science Museum, stated, "Esports is an intelligent sport that goes beyond simple entertainment, combining data analysis and scientific thinking. We hope this lecture will broaden understanding of a healthy gaming culture and inspire youth and visitors to explore new career possibilities."
