Donghae City, Gangwon Province (Mayor Sim Gyueon), announced on December 17 that it has been selected as an outstanding local government in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s evaluation of the “Livelihood Recovery Consumption Coupon” program and has secured a special grant of 150 million won.

This evaluation comprehensively considered the execution rate, speed, appropriateness of the operational system, and efforts to boost consumption in the consumption coupon project. Donghae City received high marks for its proactive policies tailored to local conditions.

In particular, Donghae City maximized the use rate of consumption coupons by providing the highest level of cashback nationwide through its local currency “Donghae Pay,” which encouraged voluntary participation from citizens. As a result, consumption coupons circulated rapidly within the region, delivering tangible benefits to small business owners and the self-employed by increasing their sales.

Thanks to these efforts, consumption coupons were used primarily at local affiliated stores rather than large retail chains, contributing to the recovery of the local economy, which was highly regarded in the evaluation.
