50% Discount and Various Events Until 8:50 a.m. on New Year's Day
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on December 17 that it will hold the '2026 DMZ Peace Sunrise Festival' on January 1, 2026, the first day of the new year, at the Paju Imjingak Peace Gondola. Participants will be able to take in views of the Imjin River and the DMZ area while making wishes for the new year.
The Paju Imjingak Peace Gondola is the first cable car in Korea to cross the Civilian Control Line, offering a unique travel experience that connects the South and North as it crosses the Imjin River. It is one of Paju’s signature tourist attractions.
This year’s festival will allow visitors to watch the sunrise over the Imjingak area at dawn from either the gondola or the observatory. To encourage participation from citizens and tourists, gondola fares will be discounted by 50% from 6:00 a.m. to 8:50 a.m., and single-use hand warmers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, among other benefits.
Lee Baekhyun, CEO of Paju DMZ Gondola Co., said, "The year 2026 is the Year of the Red Horse, symbolizing dynamism and hope. We have expanded operations to provide a meaningful opportunity for everyone to view the Imjin River and the DMZ at a glance and wish for peace on the Korean Peninsula and for their own hopes."
Paju City plans to make every effort to support the event so that many citizens and visitors can safely and warmly welcome the first sunrise of the new year.
