"Donate Your Sleeping Coins at Convenience Stores"... UNICEF Korea, BGF Retail, and Bank of Korea Launch Campaign

The UNICEF Korea Committee (Chairman Jung Gabyoung) announced on December 17 that it is launching the national coin donation campaign "Collecting Coins in the Sleeping House" in collaboration with BGF Retail (CEO Min Seungbae) and the Bank of Korea (Governor Rhee Changyong), making it easy for people to participate in their daily lives.

"Collecting Coins in the Sleeping House" is a campaign that encourages people to donate leftover foreign currency from overseas trips or unused coins that have been left at home. Participants can contribute by placing these domestic and foreign coins in donation boxes located at CU stores, making it a sharing campaign that fits seamlessly into everyday life.

Alongside the campaign, an SNS event will also be held. Participants can take photos of coins found at home or proof photos or videos of making donations at CU stores, upload them to social media with the hashtag (#잠자는집속의동전모으기), and have a chance to win CU gift certificates and UNICEF merchandise through a drawing.

To make it easy for anyone across the country to participate in this act of sharing, CU has designated all its stores nationwide as coin donation points, and the Bank of Korea has been responsible for producing the donation boxes, lending strong support to the campaign.

Additionally, to help spread the campaign, Captain Ddageo, a travel YouTuber with 700,000 subscribers, is also participating. He filmed an introductory video for the campaign as a talent donation and contributed funds, adding further meaning to the campaign for children.

Captain Ddageo said, "After traveling, I always have leftover coins that are awkward to exchange or throw away. I keep them in a drawer while looking forward to my next trip, but in reality, I rarely use them. I am happy to take part in this campaign, knowing that these sleeping coins can come together to give hope and save lives for someone else. I hope this campaign becomes an opportunity for many people to join forces and demonstrate the power of collective giving."

Min Seungbae, CEO of BGF Retail, emphasized, "Each coin that has been lying dormant can bring hope to children around the world," and added, "We are pleased that CU's nationwide offline network can help people rediscover the value of coins and easily participate in sharing. We will continue to take the lead in lowering the barriers to everyday giving and creating an environment where sharing can be practiced more easily."

Jomi Jin, Secretary General of the UNICEF Korea Committee, said, "I would like to thank BGF Retail, the Bank of Korea, and Captain Ddageo for organizing this meaningful campaign for children around the world," and added, "Just like the miracle of 1%, small coins coming together can spark big changes in children's lives. I ask for the warm interest and participation of many people."
