Despite the inclement weather, more than 150 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including Mayor Baek Kyunghyun, local residents, representatives of resident organizations, and heads of local institutions and organizations. The ceremony started with the introduction of guests, followed by a progress report, congratulatory speeches, and a groundbreaking ritual. Residents showed high expectations, stating, "The long-awaited project in Galmae-dong is finally beginning."
This project involves the construction of a new complex public facility with two basement levels and five above-ground floors to meet the growing demand for care, welfare, and cultural services due to the continuous population increase in the Galmae-dong area. The total floor area will be 11,351.37 square meters, and the center will be developed as an integrated community space accessible to all generations, from infants and children to youth, adults, and seniors.
The facility will include parking lots on the first and second basement levels; on the first floor, there will be an Integrated Childcare Support Center, a daycare center, a group childcare center, and a cafeteria; on the second floor, a senior welfare center and a children's learning and experience center; on the third floor, a social welfare center and a job center; on the fourth floor, a large auditorium and classrooms for the Guri Cultural Center; and on the fifth floor, a multipurpose gymnasium with six badminton courts and one basketball court. Through this, the city plans to greatly enhance convenience and accessibility for residents by integrating welfare, education, culture, and sports functions into a single space.
Mayor Baek Kyunghyun of Guri City stated, "The Galmae-dong Complex Community Center is a core public facility that residents have long called for, and we have carefully reflected residents' opinions from the design stage. We expect this place not only to improve the quality of life for Galmae-dong residents, but also to become a central space for communication and harmony through various activities."
