An Exciting Madangnori Performance Featuring Seopyeonje Boseong Sori
Boseong County in South Jeolla Province announced that the premiere of 'Seopyeon Boseong Sori Madangnori Simbyeol' will be held at the Boseong County Culture and Arts Center at 7 p.m. on the 18th and 2 p.m. on the 19th.
This performance was selected as the final winner in the new production category of the '2025 Specialized Support Project for Cultural and Arts Centers,' hosted and organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Cultural and Arts Centers Association. Based on Seopyeonje Boseong sori, the production combines the pansori Simcheongga and Byeoljubu-jeon in the form of a madangnori performance.
The stage features participation from young artists active in Boseong, while the creative teams from Seoul and Gwangju contributed sophisticated direction and choreography. This collaboration not only strengthens Boseong County's own production capabilities but also elevates the overall quality of the work.
In particular, the core values of traditional pansori-filial piety and loyalty-are reinterpreted from a modern perspective, creating an entertaining madangnori that fuses various genres such as trot, rap, and contemporary dance, resulting in an artistic stage that transcends generations.
A county official said, "We hope that this performance, created by Boseong's young artists, will become a new representative show for the region. We will continue to invest in and support our culture so that it can be widely promoted."
Meanwhile, Boseong County plans to further enhance the quality of 'Seopyeon Boseong Sori Madangnori Simbyeol' after its premiere, establishing it as a signature performance for local festivals and distributing it to theaters nationwide to popularize Boseong sori and strengthen its content competitiveness.
