Discussion on Expanding Participation of Local Construction Companies for Regional Mutual Growth
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) is intensifying public-private cooperation and making every effort to develop effective support measures to revitalize the stagnant regional construction industry.

The city announced that it held the "2025 Second Half Goyang City Regional Construction Industry Revitalization Promotion Committee Meeting" on the 15th at the Ilsanseo-gu Office Large Conference Room.
This meeting, the second of the year following the one held in April, was chaired by Vice Mayor Lee Junghwa and attended by officials from relevant city departments, as well as representatives from Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation, and Goyang Urban Management Corporation.
The agenda included a report on the results of the first-half meeting, a report on the status of 2025 initiatives and plans for 2026, and an open discussion. Participants shared the current crisis facing the regional construction industry, which is struggling due to the recent downturn in the construction market, rising costs, and a decrease in orders. They also engaged in in-depth discussions on ways to expand the participation of local companies.
In particular, there was a consensus on the need for Goyang City to provide active support to ensure that local companies can increase their actual participation in both public and private construction projects.
In July, the city held a meeting with the Goyang City Operations Committee of the Gyeonggi Branch of the Korea Specialty Contractors Association to listen to suggestions from the local construction industry. Subsequently, the city established measures for mutual growth with specialty contractors and distributed them to all departments.
Additionally, to expand the participation of competitive local companies, the city is reviewing the proportion of local companies involved in annual unit price contracts and has instructed each business department to examine improvement measures through comparative analysis with other cities and counties. At the same time, the city continues to recommend that private construction sites prioritize hiring Goyang citizens and using local construction companies and equipment, thereby promoting regional mutual growth.
A city official stated, "The regional construction industry is a key pillar of the local economy and job creation," adding, "We will do our utmost to bring about changes that local construction companies can truly feel through effective policies encompassing both the public and private sectors."
The city plans to further strengthen communication with large construction companies in 2026, while also promoting sustainable growth and a spirit of regional cooperation by operating the Regional Construction Industry Revitalization Promotion Committee and recognizing outstanding contributors.
