This research project was initiated to redefine the roles of railways and buses, as well as city buses and village buses, and to develop measures to strengthen connectivity between public transportation modes and improve operational efficiency. To this end, the project analyzed structural issues of the current routes and proposed directions for improvement based on various data, including transportation card big data and citizen feedback.

The meeting was attended by Lee Jeonghwa, the Second Deputy Mayor, the Bus Route System Reorganization Task Force, and Kim Chaeman, Senior Research Fellow at the Gyeonggi Research Institute. At the meeting, Studio Galilei and the Goyang Research Institute, which are conducting the research, reported on the goals and strategies for route reorganization based on their analysis of bus system issues and user demand.

The meeting identified several issues with the current bus route system: overlapping roles among different bus types, non-operation of some routes despite approval, inefficient operation in BRT sections, route detours and redundancies, imbalances in public transportation services between regions, and a concentration of bus depots in specific areas.

To address these problems, the city has set its vision and goal as "GOYANG BUS, trusted by citizens for its high punctuality." The city plans to pursue route reorganization through strategies such as establishing a trunk line-centered route system focused on GTX-A, Line 3 (Ilsan Line), and BRT; enhancing connectivity within local living zones; adjusting village bus operations; modifying and introducing services for areas with weak public transportation; and strengthening inter-regional connections.

A Goyang Special City official stated, "We plan to hold a briefing for citizens in the first half of next year, focusing on the feedback discussed at the interim report meeting," adding, "We will comprehensively review additional opinions to develop a practical route reorganization plan."
