Assemblywoman Jin-Sook Jeon of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Buk-gu B, member of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee) announced on December 16 that she has been selected as an "Outstanding Member for National Assembly Audits" by the Democratic Party of Korea for the second consecutive year.
The Democratic Party of Korea selects outstanding members for the National Assembly audits each year based on a variety of criteria, including audit activity reports, media coverage, multi-faceted evaluations, attendance records, and policy publications.
During this year's audit, Assemblywoman Jin-Sook Jeon investigated the collapse of South Korea's medical system caused by President Yoon Suk-yeol's unilateral push to increase the medical school quota by 2,000 students. She highlighted issues such as a decrease in practicing doctors, a growing shortage of physicians in public hospitals, restrictions on access to advanced general hospitals for patients with severe or rare diseases, a sharp decline in organ transplants, and a crisis in the national health insurance fund.
She also called for the necessity of the Lee Jaemyung administration’s national policy agenda to address regional disparities, expand essential medical services, and strengthen the public healthcare system, as well as for measures to secure funding. Additionally, she thoroughly addressed the issue of fraudulent claims undermining the long-term care insurance fund at "On Nursing Home" in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, operated by the family of Kim Keon-hee.
Furthermore, she examined the readiness for the full-scale implementation of integrated care beginning next year, pointed out operational problems at the National Trauma Center, which serves as the control tower in disaster situations, discussed ways to ensure the effectiveness of regional suicide prevention measures, emphasized the necessity of introducing public trusts to provide asset management support services for seniors with dementia, addressed the child death review system, and raised concerns about the cosmetic surgery procedures of Kim Keon-hee during the illegal 12·3 martial law.
Assemblywoman Jin-Sook Jeon stated, "This year's National Assembly audit was the first since the inauguration of the Lee Jaemyung administration, a government based on popular sovereignty, following the illegal 12·3 martial law and the impeachment of Yoon Suk-yeol. I approached the audit with the determination to fully inform the public about the incompetence and arrogance of the Yoon administration's policies, as well as the necessity of the Lee Jaemyung administration’s national agenda. I am pleased with the positive outcome," she said, adding, "I will continue to do my utmost to devise effective alternatives so that the livelihoods of the people can recover as soon as possible."
