The Police University’s Institute of Security Policy announced on December 16 that voice phishing using artificial intelligence (AI) deep voice technology is expected to increase.
On this day, the Institute of Security Policy stated in its "Security Outlook 2026" report, "With the growing use of artificial intelligence technology, phone scams that synthesize the voices of acquaintances using AI are likely to increase. As a result, the importance of identity verification and in-person confirmation procedures may become even greater."
The Institute of Security Policy pointed out, "Voice phishing crimes are now evolving into complex criminal systems that combine technology, capital, violence, and international networks. Methods that previously relied on phone calls and text messages, such as in the 'Kim Mi-young Team Leader' case, have now expanded to include human trafficking, virtual account laundering, and AI voice synthesis. As a result, these crimes have reached a stage where they pose threats not only to economic security but also to life and human rights."
The Institute of Security Policy added, "In order to evade police crackdowns, criminal organizations will continue to operate from overseas bases. Some suspects may even commit additional crimes locally to intentionally delay extradition. The police will need to overcome challenges such as apprehending fugitive ringleaders and the difficulties of extradition."
