Nowon-gu Offers Winter Vacation Programs for Learning and Health

From Science and Math Experiences
to Physical Activity Programs

Nowon-gu, Seoul (led by Oh Seung-rok), is offering special programs during the winter vacation to support children's learning and health.

The Nowon Astronomical and Space Science Center has prepared a special winter vacation program where children can directly experience scientific principles. The curriculum includes science experiment classes on the topic of mixture separation and hands-on activities such as exploring air resistance, all linked to school subjects. In addition, there will be special night observation programs using the planetarium and observatory.

Children will be able to observe the night sky through telescopes, fostering their curiosity about space. Participation in the science experiment classes is on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue, while registration for the night observation program can be made in advance online through the website.

The Nowon Mathematics Culture Center has also prepared a variety of programs to expand the fun of mathematics. At the open-style math experience booths, children can develop mathematical thinking through activities such as puzzles, origami, and spirograph games.

Weekend programs, in which elementary school students and their families can participate together, include activities like building a Da Vinci dome and constructing the Tower of Hanoi. Special exhibitions and Saturday exhibition tours will also be held throughout the winter vacation. Most programs are free of charge, and some family experience programs require advance reservation on the website.

The Nowon-gu Public Health Center will run the "Kisukssuk Ssokssok" program for 4th to 6th grade elementary school students during the winter vacation. From January 12 to 30 next year, the program will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a total of nine sessions, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the multipurpose auditorium on the 5th floor of the health center. Through Kin-Ball, a new sport, and various physical activities, the program aims to strengthen physical fitness and promote healthy physical development. Registration opens on the 22nd and can be made by contacting the Health Center's Dream Tree Health Counseling Office (02-2116-4551, 4391).

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, "Our goal is to create an environment where children can learn, move, and grow healthily, rather than staying at home throughout the winter vacation," adding, "From science and math experiences to physical activity programs, I hope children can spend a meaningful vacation through Nowon-gu's unique winter programs."
