The police have completed their sixth search and seizure operation of Coupang, which has been at the center of a large-scale personal information leak incident.
The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it halted the search and seizure of Coupang's headquarters office in Songpa-gu, Seoul, at around 9 p.m. on the 15th. The operation, which involved 11 investigators, began at 9:30 a.m. and lasted for 11 hours and 30 minutes.
Except for December 14, the police have been conducting daily search and seizure operations since December 9.
It appears that securing evidence is taking a significant amount of time due to the vast amount of Coupang's original data and the fact that the search and seizure is being carried out by directly accessing and downloading data from Coupang's internal high-capacity servers, rather than from the cloud.
The police plan to analyze the collected materials to track down the whereabouts of a former employee of Chinese nationality suspected of leaking personal information. They will also investigate whether Coupang violated any laws regarding the management of personal information.
The police expect to complete the search and seizure of Coupang by the following day.
