The police have completed their sixth raid and seizure operation on Coupang, following a massive personal information leak incident.
The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on December 15 at around 9 p.m. that it had concluded the search and seizure at Coupang’s headquarters office in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The operation involved 11 investigators and lasted for 11 hours and 30 minutes, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Except for December 14, the police have been conducting daily raids and seizures since December 9.
It appears that securing evidence is taking a considerable amount of time due to the vast amount of Coupang’s original data, and because the search and seizure involves directly accessing and downloading data from Coupang’s internal large-capacity servers rather than from the cloud.
The police plan to analyze the collected materials to track down the whereabouts of the former employee of Chinese nationality suspected of leaking personal information. At the same time, they will also examine whether Coupang violated any regulations regarding the management of personal information.
The police expect to conclude the search and seizure operations on Coupang by the following day.
