On this day, the 1st Subcommittee on Bill Examination of the Political Affairs Committee held a meeting to review and approve the amendment to the Personal Information Protection Act, which was sponsored by Park Beomgye of the Democratic Party of Korea and Kim Sanghoon of the People Power Party, among others.
The key point of the amendment is to raise the upper limit of fines for repeated or major personal data breaches from the current 3% of revenue to up to 10%.
In their explanation of the bill, Assemblyman Kim and others stated, "Recently, major companies have experienced widespread personal data breaches, undermining trust in personal information protection. Therefore, we aim to introduce a stronger fine system for repeated or major personal data violations to address the limitations of the current sanctions."
