The groundbreaking ceremony for the long-awaited "Daejang-Hongdae Metropolitan Railroad Private Investment Project" (hereinafter referred to as the Daejang-Hongdae Line) in the Deok-eun District of Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province, was held on December 15 at the soccer field of Ojeong Grand Park in Bucheon.

Approximately 500 people attended the ceremony, including Kim Yongseok, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Commission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, local government leaders from the regions along the route, members of the National Assembly, local residents, and project officials, marking the beginning of a transportation revolution in the western metropolitan area.
Lee Donghwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, also attended the groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the official start of construction and to wish for a safe project.
The Daejang-Hongdae Line is a metropolitan railroad project that will connect a total length of 20.109 kilometers, starting from Daejang New Town in Bucheon, passing through Yangcheon-gu and Gangseo-gu in Seoul and the Deok-eun District in Goyang, and ending at Hongdae Entrance Station. With a total project cost of approximately 2.1287 trillion won, the project aims to open in the second half of 2031 after a six-year construction period.
This groundbreaking ceremony holds special significance for Goyang Special City. Despite its geographical advantage of bordering Seoul, the Deok-eun District has been referred to as a "transportation island" due to the lack of a rail network. With the establishment of the tentatively named Deok-eun Station, this will change.
Initially, the station was considered for the Guryong Intersection area, but from the early stages of the project, the city continuously requested the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the project operator to relocate the station to the Deok-eun District. As a result, the current location was selected, improving transportation convenience for local residents and enhancing connectivity with nearby urban development projects, such as the National Defense University city development project.

Once the Daejang-Hongdae Line opens, residents of the Deok-eun District will be able to reach Gayang Station on Line 9 in just one stop and Hongdae Entrance Station in only three stops, making it possible to travel to central Seoul in under 10 minutes. This is expected to greatly improve access to central Seoul for Deok-eun District residents.
An official from Goyang Special City stated, "With the groundbreaking of the Daejang-Hongdae Line, we have taken the first step toward securing the long-awaited rail network for residents of the Deok-eun District. We will work closely with the project operator and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to minimize complaints related to noise and traffic inconveniences that may arise during construction."
