The Australian government is considering strengthening gun control laws in response to the shooting incident at a Jewish festival in Sydney.
According to the Financial Times (FT) on December 14 (local time), Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held a press conference after visiting the scene of the Bondi Beach incident and stated, "The authorities will take all necessary measures" to protect the Australian Jewish community.
The Australian government has classified the recent shooting as an act of terrorism and is currently investigating the case. Prime Minister Albanese is scheduled to convene government officials to discuss stricter gun control laws, including limiting the number of firearms that can be sold to individuals and reconsidering the permanent issuance of gun licenses.
Prime Minister Albanese stressed, "Antisemitism is a disaster. We will work together to eradicate it." He added, "The government will take all necessary measures," noting that "this includes the need for even stronger gun control laws."
Meanwhile, on December 13 (local time), two armed men opened fire at a Jewish festival held at Bondi Beach in Sydney, resulting in 16 confirmed deaths. Local police shot and killed one of the two suspects and apprehended the other.
