"Rent Reduction for Small Business Owners"
and
"Calls for Improvements in Citizen Safety and Environmental Measures"
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "The most important thing is the effectiveness of policies that small business owners, SMEs, and citizens can truly feel," adding, "Support for small businesses and SMEs will be provided swiftly, and citizen safety will be pursued without any negligence."
At a weekly work meeting he presided over on the 15th, Mayor Lee made these remarks while calling for the effectiveness of 'rent reduction and support policies for small business owners,' as well as improvements in 'safety and environmental issues closely related to citizens' daily lives.'
Regarding the 'rent reduction for small business owners and SMEs leasing city-owned shared property,' he emphasized, "Actively promote the program to enhance its effectiveness and ensure prompt execution," and added, "Instead of processing all applications at once after the deadline, the process and payment should be carried out immediately upon application."
Currently, 1,150 businesses and individuals are leasing and using the city's shared property. Among these, small business owners and other micro-enterprises account for 94.7% of the number of stores and 87.4% of the total rent.
Under this new measure, from January 1 to December 31, 2025 (based on the use permit contract), small business owners and SMEs who directly use shared property will receive a rent reduction of up to 60%, with a maximum limit of 20 million won.
In addition, regarding the '2025 second-half rent support grant for micro-enterprises,' which provides up to 300,000 won in rent support to small business owners with annual sales of less than 80 million won, Mayor Lee instructed, "Respond proactively to ensure prompt execution of the support program and additional recruitment so that no budget remains unused."
Improvements to environmental and housing sectors closely related to citizens' daily lives were also discussed.
Mayor Lee called for a comprehensive survey on the status of recycling waste management in areas densely populated with single-family homes and studio apartments, and requested the development of measures to improve the collection system.
He also instructed the implementation of more proactive policies for the maintenance of vacant houses to address safety and hygiene issues caused by abandoned properties.
Regarding safety, he emphasized the need for winter sinkhole management measures, and in particular, ordered the establishment of a proactive response system based on weather forecasts to prevent accidents caused by freezing on bridges and underpasses.
Furthermore, to strengthen safety management for work in confined spaces such as underground installations, he directed the revision of standard safety manuals for all workplaces, including underground facilities and construction sites, and ordered enhanced pre-inspections and training to prevent accidents and protect lives.
