Kim Dongyeon: "Four Companies Including SK Hynix to Move into Bucheon Daejang District, Driving Western Region Development"

Four companies, including Korean Air, SK Hynix, SK Innovation, and DN Solutions, will move into the Bucheon Daejang R&D Cluster District in Gyeonggi Province.

On December 15, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had signed land purchase and occupancy contracts with these four companies for the Bucheon Daejang public housing district at the Ojeong District Office in Bucheon.

During a meeting, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon stated, "Bucheon is the most central hub city in the western region, and today, four companies have signed occupancy contracts. I am very pleased that anchor companies are joining the R&D Cluster."

He continued, "One of the key tasks for Gyeonggi Province and Bucheon City is to attract companies to the Daejang District. Two months ago, Gyeonggi Province achieved 100 trillion won in investment attraction and is now in a leading position in attracting both domestic and foreign investment, on par with the central government. We will provide maximum administrative support, including permits and transportation-related facilities, to ensure that everything proceeds as planned within the scheduled timeframe."

Regarding the creation of a residential environment, Governor Kim added, "Gyeonggi Province is introducing the concept of 'live-work' by including residential facilities within the industrial cluster. If we are to resolve the housing needs of employees within the cluster, it may be necessary to revise the guidelines, and we will actively review and seek solutions."

Bucheon Daejang is a public housing district spanning 3.45 million square meters, of which 560,000 square meters will be developed as an urban high-tech industrial complex focused on research and development (R&D). Based on close communication with companies, Gyeonggi Province and Bucheon City have successfully attracted strategic investments totaling 2.6 trillion won.

This contract in the Bucheon Daejang District marks the first land purchase and occupancy agreement between companies and a district among all third-phase new towns. It is significant as it represents the first case where investment agreements for the third-phase new towns have resulted in actual investments.

By company, Korean Air will invest 1.2 trillion won to build a "UAM & Aviation Safety Center" on a 72,000-square-meter site. SK Innovation and SK Hynix will jointly invest a total of 1.1886 trillion won to establish a metropolitan R&D center on a 45,000-square-meter site. DN Solutions, a global machine tool manufacturer, will invest 239 billion won to build an advanced technology research institute on a 14,700-square-meter site.

Previously, in January, Gyeonggi Province proposed amending the guidelines for land development work to attract companies, allowing the governor, in addition to mayors, county heads, and district heads, to recommend companies for urban support facilities.

In addition, Gyeonggi Province carried out the "Gyeonggi-Technovalley Self-Sufficiency Activation Plan," which set key industries and supply strategy directions for each city and county.

Building on the success of this initial contract, Gyeonggi Province plans to steadily promote the creation of industrial clusters, expand company attraction, and strengthen the foundation for future industries within the third-phase new towns.
