Yangpyeong County has been implementing various initiatives to prevent atopy and asthma, including operating 74 Atopy and Asthma Safe Schools, conducting prevalence surveys at these schools, providing allergy education for students, organizing teacher academy programs, and supporting moisturizer and medical expenses. In particular, this year, as a region-specific initiative, the county designated six "Clean Nature Atopy Zero Green Schools" to carry out prevention and management projects tailored to local characteristics.
The Green Schools (selected from among the Atopy and Asthma Safe Schools) are a specialized project aimed at preventing the worsening and recurrence of symptoms in children with atopy and asthma in the region, and at making Yangpyeong a clean and healthy place where children with atopy can also live comfortably.
The county provided specialized allergy education for students and parents, and offered various hands-on educational programs such as a puppet show teaching methods for preventing and managing atopic dermatitis, and a forest experience program utilizing Yangpyeong's natural environment. These programs were met with an enthusiastic response from both students and parents.
In 2025, three educational institutions located in Danwol-myeon-Danwol Elementary School, Danwol Elementary School Affiliated Kindergarten, and Danwol Daycare Center-were designated as Green Schools and actively participated in the program. Among them, Danwol Elementary School received the Gyeonggi Province Governor's Commendation in the Safe School category.
Additionally, the county continued follow-up management and ongoing educational programs for Yangdong Elementary School, Yangdong Elementary School Affiliated Kindergarten, and Yangdong Daycare Center, which were designated as Green Schools in 2024, thereby further strengthening support in the Chaeum area.
Bae Myeongseok, Director of the Public Health Center, stated, "Yangpyeong County will continue to promote various allergy disease prevention projects, such as expanding Atopy and Asthma Safe Schools and advancing the Clean Nature Atopy Zero Green School initiative, to build a healthy and clean Yangpyeong where not only children with atopy but everyone would want to live."
