Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on December 15 that the designation of the district and the development plan for the 'Ssangnyeong District Urban Development Project,' which is being promoted in the Ssangnyeong-dong area, are scheduled to be officially announced by Gyeonggi Province on December 16.
This urban development project is a land readjustment-type project implemented by the Ssangnyeong District Urban Development Project Promotion Committee. It is expected to create a residential complex of approximately 3,300 households in the Ssangnyeong-dong area, including sites for an elementary school, a middle school, and public office buildings.
The city expects that this project will make it possible to establish a new middle school-an issue long awaited by residents of Ssangnyeong-dong-as well as to build a new Ssangnyeong-dong Administrative Welfare Center to replace the current leased facility.
In particular, in addition to the area covered by the Ssangnyeong District Urban Development Project, various public contribution measures such as the reconstruction of the Geongan Bridge, the expansion of Poeun-daero, and the reinstallation of an interchange are included, which are expected to significantly improve the overall transportation environment in the Ssangnyeong-dong area.
The Ssangnyeong District Urban Development Project Promotion Committee, the main entity behind the project, stated, "After the official announcement of the district designation and development plan, we plan to establish the urban development project association, obtain approval for the implementation plan in 2026, and proceed with the project step by step with the goal of completion by 2030."
An official from Gwangju City said, "If the Ssangnyeong District Urban Development Project is carried out quickly and systematically, it is expected to greatly contribute to the expansion of essential infrastructure and the creation of a pleasant residential environment."
