The installation of the winter-optimized athletic track is part of Pocheon City's public sports policy aimed at promoting citizens' health. The project was designed to address the issue of limited access to outdoor exercise spaces during cold waves in winter, and to create an environment where citizens and athletes can continue to exercise even in severe cold, thereby supporting physical fitness management and improved athletic performance.
The newly opened winter-optimized athletic track was created by utilizing the existing track at the Pocheon Sports Complex. A vinyl tunnel was installed along the entire length of the track, allowing for safe and comfortable use even in the middle of winter. Of the six lanes on the 400-meter track, lanes 1 to 4 are designated exclusively for running, while lanes 5 and 6 are reserved for walking, ensuring that users have separate pathways. This facility is scheduled to operate until early March next year.
An official from Pocheon City stated, "Pocheon City is implementing a variety of customized health promotion policies to help citizens maintain their health in daily life, with the goal of becoming a city where people can live to 100 years old. The installation of the winter-optimized athletic track is also part of these policies, and we will continue to expand public sports infrastructure, such as creating barefoot walking paths near citizens' homes, so that everyone can easily exercise as part of their daily routine."
