Jeonbuk Province to Provide Restoration Funds to Farms Damaged by Autumn Rainy Season This Month

5.17 Billion Won in Restoration Funds to Be Provided to 3,684 Farms

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province will provide a total of 5.17 billion won in restoration funds to 3,684 farms in the province that suffered damage from the autumn rainy season in September and October. The payments will be made within this month.

According to the province on December 15, the total area of crop damage caused by frequent heavy rainfall during this autumn reached 4,313 hectares. The main damages were concentrated in the following crops: 3,770 hectares of paddy soybeans, 240 hectares of radishes, and 303 hectares of cabbages.

Immediately after the damage occurred, the province conducted on-site inspections and confirmed crop losses such as root rot and soft rot caused by flooding and excessive moisture. Jeonbuk then requested the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to recognize the incident as an agricultural disaster. As the central government officially recognized the autumn rainy season damage in Jeonbuk as an agricultural disaster, a basis for restoration support was established.

In addition to restoration funds, the province will implement various support measures to ease the management burden on affected farms. Farms with a damage rate of 30% or higher can defer policy fund repayments for one to two years, and interest reduction measures will also be applied. Furthermore, farms that need additional operating funds can receive disaster management loans at a fixed interest rate of 1.8% or a six-month variable interest rate.

Min Sunshik, Director of the Agricultural Life and Livestock Industry Bureau, said, "Ensuring the management stability of farms affected by unexpected abnormal weather is our top priority. The province will strengthen agricultural resilience through prompt support and systematic damage assessment."
