The construction of the Cheongju-Boeun direction connecting ramps at the Gukdong Interchange, located in Gukdong-ri, Naesu-eup, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju, as part of the Cheongju National Road Bypass 3rd Ring Road, has been completed and will open at 4:00 p.m. on December 16.

The Daejeon Regional Land Management Office invested 14.1 billion won in the Boeun and Cheongju direction connecting ramps (Ramp-G, H) at the Gukdong Interchange, which are opening this time, and completed the construction over a period of approximately one year and eight months, starting in April 2024.

With the full opening of the Gukdong Interchange, all direction-specific connecting ramps to and from Jeungpyeong, Cheongju, and Boeun have been constructed as grade-separated interchanges, which will not only enhance traffic safety but also reduce the travel distance (3.0 km) and driving time (7 minutes) between the Sangri Interchange and Yongjeong Interchange.

The dispersal of traffic volumes within Cheongju is expected to help ease downtown congestion, and improved interregional movement and urban accessibility are also anticipated to enhance the main road function of the national highway.

Bang Yunseok, Director of the Daejeon Regional Land Management Office, stated, "Although it took a long time to complete all the grade-separated connecting ramps at the Gukdong Interchange, we were able to successfully finish the project thanks to the understanding and cooperation of the citizens. Even after the opening, we will do our utmost to inspect the facilities and manage traffic safety."
