"Cherries and Bananas at Lower Prices"... Lotte Mart Launches "Special Imported Fruit Discount Event"

Major Imported Fruits to Be Sold at Reasonable Prices Starting on the 18th

On December 15, Lotte Mart announced that it will launch a “Special Imported Fruit Discount Event” starting on the 18th to help stabilize the prices of imported fruits. The discounted items will include cherries, blueberries, bananas, and pineapples, which are among the top-selling imported fruit categories.

Recently, the KRW-USD exchange rate has surged to the mid-to-high 1,400 won range, leading to a general increase in the prices of imported food products. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation’s Agricultural Products Distribution Information (KAMIS), as of Wednesday, December 10, the price per 100g of imported bananas was 334 won, up about 16% from last year’s 288 won, while the price of one imported pineapple rose about 27% year-on-year.

From the 18th to the 21st, for four days, Lotte Mart will sell “Hangadeuk Cherry (450g, Chilean)” and “Hangadeuk Blueberry (400g, Chilean)” for 9,990 won each. To sell “Hangadeuk Blueberry,” Lotte Mart held advance consultations with its partner company in October this year and secured a total supply of 15 tons of blueberries. In addition, the company increased the package size by about 30% compared to previously sold blueberry packages to enhance price competitiveness.

“Hangadeuk Cherry” uses XL-sized cherries, which are widely distributed in Chile. Unlike the J (Jumbo) size cherries typically sold in Korea, these cherries are smaller in size, but the price per 100g is about 20% lower, offering excellent value for money. Additionally, all of the Hangadeuk Cherry stock for this event is shipped directly by air, ensuring exceptional freshness. Both products are packaged in Christmas-themed boxes instead of standard plastic containers to highlight the year-end gift concept.

Lotte Mart will also sell “Highland Bananas” and “Cutting Pineapples” for 3,990 won and 4,990 won, respectively, until the 24th. In particular, by expanding the direct sourcing volume of Philippine Gold Pineapples by 40% compared to last year, the company has reduced the selling price by 30% year-on-year.

Kim Minkyoung, Product Manager of the Fruit Team at Lotte Mart & Super, said, “We prepared this discount event so that customers can purchase imported fruits without burden even during a period of high exchange rates and high prices,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen our direct sourcing and advance planning capabilities to offer high-quality imported fruits at reasonable prices.”
