Introduced for the first time this year, the "Seoul-Type Win-Win Franchise" system aims to establish fair relationships between headquarters and franchisees and to spread a culture of mutual growth. It is significant as a starting point for expanding voluntary efforts for mutual growth and exemplary management practices across the industry.
Before implementing the system, the Seoul Metropolitan Government established evaluation criteria in four areas: compliance with the Fair Trade Act by franchise headquarters, sustainability of the franchise business, efforts for communication and cooperation with franchisees, and connection to the local economy. A total of 24 companies applied for the program, and after the first round of document review and a second round of on-site evaluation, eight companies were finally selected.
The selected franchise headquarters have implemented practical win-win measures to ease the management burden on franchisees, such as alleviating cost burdens, improving communication, and establishing operational support systems. In addition to measures like waiving penalties for early contract termination and providing 50% support for signboard costs for stores operating for over 10 years, they also supported struggling franchises with delivery fees and food ingredients.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government awarded the certified franchise headquarters with the "Excellent Win-Win Franchise" prize and certification plaques. For affiliated franchisees, the city will support programs to strengthen store management capabilities, including promotional support, consulting, and educational programs. Kim Taekyun, First Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, stated, "The selected franchise headquarters have set an example of growing together through win-win cooperation with franchise business owners. We will actively support the spread of such win-win cases throughout the franchise industry."
Meanwhile, the "Seoul-Type Win-Win Franchise" award ceremony was held that morning in the main conference room of Seoul City Hall. Vice Mayor Kim personally presented the certification plaques and certificates and shared outstanding win-win cases from the selected franchise headquarters.
