The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on December 15 that drone industry exports reached 36.8 billion won this year, a 58% increase compared to last year. While exports were made to 13 countries last year, this year the number increased to 30. The United Arab Emirates accounted for the largest share, followed by the United States, Uzbekistan, Germany, and Singapore.
Drone airframes, including vertical take-off and landing aircraft and multipurpose mission drones, accounted for 84% of exports, making up the majority. There were also achievements in the export of services (13%) and parts (2%). This year, 17 companies exported drones, and one company was awarded the 3 Million Dollar Export Tower at this year’s Trade Day event.

The Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority have been implementing initiatives to support domestic companies’ overseas expansion. They have assisted companies in participating in various events such as international exhibitions and have supported market development by connecting them with foreign institutions and companies. In response to requests for sharing technical expertise and operational know-how, a drone academy was established in Kazakhstan last year and in Ghana this year.
Kim Youngguk, Director of Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, “These export results are the outcome of our drone companies’ efforts to localize development in line with government policy. Next year, we will actively promote the Korean drone industry by holding expos and conferences, so that domestically developed drone airframes, parts, and services can make a full-scale entry into markets such as the United States.”
