Man in His 20s With Mental Illness Arrested in the Act on Parricide Charges

Involuntarily Hospitalized Earlier This Year for Carrying a Weapon,
But Discharged by the Hospital

The Guro Police Station in Seoul announced on December 14 that it had arrested Lee (23) in the act on charges of parricide and plans to request an arrest warrant.

Lee is accused of fatally assaulting his mother, who was in her 50s, with a blunt object and a knife at their home in Guro-dong, Guro-gu, around 6 p.m. the previous day.

Lee admitted to the crime after being apprehended by the police, who responded to a report filed by his father.

It was confirmed that in March, Lee had also been involuntarily hospitalized by the police for exhibiting delusional behavior while carrying a weapon, but was later discharged based on the hospital's assessment.

The police have requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service.
